Inspired by the burlap sacks used for imported products such as coffee and sugar, SASA is a unique line of high-quality, canvas bags, each adorned with a flag from a Latin American country. The SASA bag line was developed to empower Latino youth born and raised in the US by allowing them to represent their cultural pride in an attractive and stylish way.

Founded in the Spring of 2005 by 29 year-old, Brooklyn-based entrepreneur, César Vargas, the conception for a line of bags for Latino youth came while serving as an AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteer in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Born and raised in Illinois to Mexican immigrant parents, César is a first generation American who grew up one of the few Latinos in a predominantly black and white community.  Growing up, people had difficulty pronouncing his name so instead they called him “Sasa”.

César learned to embrace his cultural heritage and represent it to the fullest. SASA identifies with and speaks for the experience of the 37 million Latinos living in the US today. ¡Representa!
